Giving Back to Aid Abused and Neglected Foster Children in Nevada

Lynne Johnston at CASA LuauCASA is a national organization that recruits and trains volunteers to aid in finding safe, permanent, loving homes for abused and neglected foster children. CASA volunteers also learn how to effectively stand up and be the voice of these children in court.

As a previous guardian ad litem volunteer for a similar organization in South Carolina, our team member Lynne Johnston knows how much support this organizations needs to succeed.  When she found out about the Pioneer Territory arm of the organization located in Pahrump, she jumped at the opportunity to give back and get involved.

John C. Kish Boys and Girls Club Cheer Team Sponsors

Cynthia Garcia, a team member Glen Lerner Injury Attorneys Las Vegas was at John C. Kish Boys and Girls Club in Henderson, Nevada when she noticed something about the club’s cheer team. All of the cheer leaders wore black clothing.

After further investigation she found out the reason; the cheer team did not have the funds to purchase uniforms for each member of their squad.

Seeing this need, Cynthia took it upon herself to reach out to family, friends and Glen Lerner to ask for help in sponsoring the girls. Thanks to combined contributions, the Kish Boys and Girls Club cheer team has new uniforms to wear to sporting events.

Over 500 people attend the market each week to enjoy live entertainment, a free kids program, local artisan items and locally grown fresh, quality vegetables, fruits, bread, meat, olives and spices. A full list of 2016 vendors, programs and more may be found at elginharvestmarket.com.

What is the Link Card Double Value Program?

BMO Harris, a local bank, created the “Link Card Double Value Program” to offer additional assistance to low-income families who use Illinois Link Cards.

In three easy steps, low-income families can receive an additional $20 match, per week, to buy fruits and vegetables and all kinds of groceries. Since the market is open for 18 consecutive weeks, that’s an additional $380 worth of food each family can potentially get throughout the season.

Pahrump balloon festival Dear Glen Lerner,

I would like to thank you for sponsoring myself along with my friend for the hot air balloon ride during the festival that happened here in Pahrump. It was an invigorating experience.

Thanks to you, not only I, but other homeless youth were able to experience how beautiful the town is from in the sky. We went up in the balloon named Top Of The Mornin’ and the pilot was amazing. I was able to fulfill a dream of mine and that means the world to me.

Glen Lerner Sponsors USA Basketball Outreach In Illinois

IMG_4105

Tom Grace, one of the attorneys at Glen Lerner Injury Attorneys’ office in Chicago, has been working with young basketball players at the Salvation Army Cross Generations Community Center on Burr Oak Avenue in Blue Island since January 2016. Tom has coached youth basketball for eight years and shares his knowledge with both players and coaches at the Center.

“Coaching kids is very rewarding to me,” says Tom Grace. “At times, I coach small groups of kids and at other times, I coach individual boys and girls.” “Overall, I have coached over 20 different players from the area.” Tom continued, “I had a chance to connect with many of the kids and really enjoyed the opportunity to share my knowledge of the game.” Tom works with D. Towers, a long time personal trainer at the Center, who is devoted to the development of the basketball talent in the Blue Island area.

Tom assists other coaches, like Dervel and Marlon Jackson with Jackson Community Services and the youth basketball teams that they organize.Josh Polanco, the former Captain at the Center, made the connection with Lt. Bersabe Vera, the Corp Officer / Pastor at the Center and had the idea of putting Tom’s passion for coaching to good use. Josh, a minister, has been volunteering his time in the Blue Island area for many years and often leads church services at the Center. Josh is now the Community Outreach Coordinator with the Glen Lerner Injury Attorneys. Josh, based in the law firm’s Elgin office, organizes community events sponsored by the law firm all across Chicagoland.Recently, D. Towers organized a team from the Center to compete in a USA Basketball 3 on three tournaments on March 25, 2016, at the Southland Center in Lynwood and invited Tom to coach the team. The team consisted of 4 freshmen and sophomores from the Blue Island area and who regularly play at the Center in Blue Island. Of course, Tom jumped at the chance to coach.USA Basketball hosted the tournament.

Ten teams competed in a double elimination tournament for a chance to move on and compete on a regional and national basis, and ultimately for an opportunity to represent the United States in international play. Glen Lerner Injury Attorneys paid the entry fee, and Tom coached the team. The team finished second in the tournament. To get the Championship game, the team came back in the last two minutes to tie the game and got a critical stop on defense to force overtime. In overtime, they pushed ahead and won the game. A great comeback victory. The boys fought hard but ultimately lost in Championship game to a group of older and very talented players. The players on the team got a chance to see where basketball might take them and learned that hard work and dedication is necessary to get there. On any given Saturday morning, you may find Tom at the Center in Blue Island sharing his knowledge and passion for the game of basketball with local players and coaches.
